What is GHOST insulation?

GHOST is an ultra-thin high-performance insulation built from a nano-structured polymer aerogel material originally developed through aerospace thermal science. It delivers exceptional warmth with almost no bulk.

Instead of using fluffy fibers like traditional insulation, GHOST uses a microscopic internal structure that traps heat while staying extremely thin.

In simple terms:

Less bulk. More thermal efficiency.

Is GHOST aerogel?

Yes, but not the fragile kind.

Many aerogel products add particles or coatings to fabric. GHOST forms its aerogel structure directly within the material during manufacturing, creating a continuous insulation matrix.

That means:

  • no loose particles
  • no shifting layers
  • no fragile inserts

The insulation isn’t added later, it’s built in.

What is the difference between GHOST and GHOST X?

Both materials use the same core technology a nano-structured insulation architecture.

  • GHOST → Ultra-thin, minimal bulk insulation designed for tight spaces and technical garments.

  • GHOST X → A higher-performance version designed for more demanding cold environments and higher thermal output.

Think of it like this:

  • GHOST = precision insulation

  • GHOST X = maximum thermal output

Same DNA. Different power levels.

How can something this thin actually keep you warm?

Traditional insulation relies on loft big fluffy fibers that trap air.

GHOST works differently. The insulation comes from a structural matrix filled with micro-voids and nano-scale pores that trap still air and slow heat transfer.

Because the insulation is part of the material structure itself, it doesn’t need to stay puffed up.

Thin doesn’t mean weak. It means engineered.

Does GHOST stop working when compressed?

No.

Down and fiberfill lose insulation when compressed because their loft collapses. GHOST doesn’t rely on loft at all. Its thermal resistance comes from the internal structure of the material, not trapped fluff.

That means it keeps performing in places where insulation normally fails:

  • gloves
  • boots
  • helmet liners
  • tight technical garments

Compression doesn’t switch GHOST off.

Will it make me sweaty?

No. GHOST is designed to manage moisture while retaining heat.

The material allows water vapor to diffuse through the insulation while limiting airflow that would carry heat away.

This helps prevent the classic cold-weather problem:

sweat → condensation → chilling.

So instead of trapping moisture, GHOST lets perspiration escape while maintaining warmth.

What happens if GHOST gets wet?

GHOST is hydrophobic at the polymer level, meaning it doesn’t absorb water like traditional fiber insulation.

Water can temporarily occupy internal pores, but it isn’t absorbed and dries quickly.

Result:

  • faster drying
  • less waterlogging
  • more stable insulation in damp conditions

GHOST doesn’t rely on staying perfectly dry to stay warm.
